What’s new in Snapmaker Luban v4.4.0

Hi makers,

We are excited to introduce Luban v4.4.0! In this version, we made huge progress in supporting the 3D Printing function. Let’s take a look at some biggest new additions.

1. New Interface

2. Much more Configurable Parameters

We introduced a brand new interface for you to quickly access recommended parameters via four standard Printing Profiles, while also retaining the option of customizing the parameters yourself.

Full Control of Advanced Parameters in Snapmaker Luban

In Version 4.4.0, you can tweak 290+ parameters for material and printing settings, compared to the 50+ parameters in previous versions. You can access the underlying parameters and have full control of the machining process. Below is a sampling of parameters you can tweak:

  • Speed Control: Fine structure Speed Control, Acceleration Control, Jerk Control
  • Support Structure: Multi-density Support, Tree Support, Support Preference
  • Fill: Fractal fill, Multi-density fill
  • Top and bottom: Ironing mode
  • Structure Fine-tuning
  • Path optimization

In the interface for Printing Settings management, you can manage a variety of printing parameters and refer to the detailed explanation of each parameter at ease.

Material Settings

You can now access and select the material settings from the upper right toolbar. There is a clearly designed material selection interface to present a larger amount of material from basic to professional, including materials like PVA and HIPS, breakaway filaments, and nylon supported by the upcoming Dual Extrusion 3D Printing Module.

We all know that 3D printing filament properties are varied on many aspects. In view of this, this new version enables users to input the basic material properties to generate a profile for a certain kind of filament. You can directly choose the custom profile every time you use the same filament.

3. Simulation Preview

We upgraded the thin line preview to a simulation preview, which looks closer to the printed product.

Heads-up: this function might occupy a larger amount of the computer’s memory, especially with large models.

4. New Canvas Style

We re-designed the layout of Canvas. When you zoom in or zoom out, you can see a dynamic display of varying scales on the plate. We also optimized the zoom-in interaction and the way of panning after the zoom-in.

5. Model Repair and Model Simplification

We often need to repair models to ensure a satisfying final result. Now you can do it with Luban. Common imperfections of STL files such as flipped normals, holes, opened shells, and intersecting triangles can be detected. Luban will subsequently provide a suggestion for repair.

On top of model repair, the feature of model simplification has been added to this version. You don’t always have to print a 3D model in its exact size. Luban allows you to customize the simplification rate or layer height, and simply your model based on your need for printing accuracy and efficiency. With this feature, you can create something like a low-poly model easily.

6. Quick Preview before slicing

This is a tentative function that is still under development and supports a few parameters only. You can see a preliminary preview of the print on the canvas without slicing.

P.S. If you want to use this function, you can enable it in Preferences.

7. Toolpath Optimization

We optimized the path of vector machining to make the machining process more intelligent and time-efficient.

8. Support 3MF and AMF formats

In Luban 4.4.0, all three functions support the import of 3MF and AMF formats. When you import 3MF and AMF files with multiple 3D printing models, they are imported as a group and tiled hierarchically. STL has been a widely used format for a long time. However, 3MF format can meet the need for multi-color and multi-material printing more efficiently. Import 3D printing models of 3MF and AMF formats into Luban, and give it a try now!

  1. I installed this version and like most of the new features. I tried the surface option. However, it doesn’t seem to create a smooth upper surface. I have models with large flat surfaces and would like to get a smooth surface instead of the crosshatch pattern

  2. Great improvements can’t wait to try them out. With tool path optimisation it would be great to improve ‘nesting’ of seperate parts to pack them as close together as possible. That would further reduce the distance the print/laser head has to travel and speed up the overall process.

    Well done and keep improving.

  3. Great, but the new software do not connect with the snapmaker A350. Error “Fail connecting, it is connected with other Device”.
